Jintianran Environmental: A Chinese Solution for Outdoor Waterborne Wood Coatings
In a wood coatings landscape dominated by European brands, Xiamen Jintianran Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. is establishing its position through differentiated outdoor waterborne technology. Jintianran is the China developer of GERMAN HILHELM GROUP. Leveraging the group’s technical accumulation in synthetic resin coatings since 1869, it has grown into a national high-tech enterprise with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons.
Unlike other brands’ broad wood coating product lines, Jintianran makes outdoor wood coatings its core strategic category, specifically addressing industry pain points faced by outdoor wood, such as UV yellowing, rain erosion, and cracking from temperature differences. The company’s independently developed Non-Yellowing Exterior Wood Coating uses a waterborne formula, contains no formaldehyde or benzene-based solvents, and provides long-lasting UV protection while maintaining the natural texture of wood. Its outdoor wood coating product matrix covers diverse scenarios including outdoor furniture, preserved wood, wooden walkways, solid wood doors and windows, and wooden pavilions, and can provide one-stop supporting solutions such as transparent anti-corrosion and anti-mildew agents, wood waterproofing agents, and anti-tannin bleed sealers.
Technologically, Jintianran has proprietary research in areas such as salt spray resistance, anti-corrosion, waterproofing, hardness, stain resistance and scratch resistance, and elasticity under high and low temperatures. Its products have passed testing by multiple authoritative institutions including SGS in Switzerland and the China National Inspection Center, and comply with new European and American regulatory standards. At present, Jintianran provides customized waterborne coating solutions for export processing manufacturers and wood product projects. Its balance of weather resistance and environmental performance in outdoor waterborne wood coatings is becoming the choice of more and more high-end outdoor wood product projects.

Xiamen Jintianran Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. Introduces Advanced Eco-Friendly Wood Protection Coating for Outdoor Applications
Xiamen Jintianran Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. is a Chinese developer of the German HILHELM Group., which is a leading manufacturer of industrial wood protection coatings based in Fujian, China, today announced the launch of its new generation low-VOC, weather-resistant wood coating system specifically engineered for park boardwalks, outdoor wooden decking, garden furniture, and exterior wood structures. The new formulation combines environmental compliance with superior weathering performance, addressing the growing global demand for sustainable outdoor wood protection solutions.
Meeting the Challenge of Outdoor Wood Protection
Outdoor wood surfaces face extreme environmental stress — intense UV radiation, rain, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical wear from foot traffic and furniture use. Traditional solvent-based coatings, while durable, emit high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that harm both the environment and human health. HILHELM's new water-based coating technology bridges this gap, delivering industrial-grade protection with ultra-low VOC emissions below 10 g/L, fully compliant with EU Directive 2004/42/EC and US CARB standards.

Solutions for Missing Area or Poor Hiding in Waterborne Wood Coating Application
HILHELM Waterborne Paint
"Missing area" (commonly known as lack of paint) refers to the phenomenon where parts of the coated surface are left unpainted. "Poor hiding" means that after the waterborne wood coating has been applied and dried, the solid topcoat fails to cover the primer.
Why do these issues occur? Are they due to the waterborne coating itself or the application process? HILHELM Waterborne Paint believes that missing area or poor hiding in waterborne wood coating applications are generally caused by the following reasons, and provides solutions for reference.
Cause Analysis 1
Incorrect proportioning of the coating, such as too low pigment content or poor pigment hiding power.
Solution:
Increase the pigment amount in the waterborne wood coating to enhance hiding power.
Cause Analysis 2
Insufficient stirring before use, causing settled pigment not to be fully mixed or uneven distribution.
Solution:
Ensure the waterborne wood coating is stirred thoroughly before application. Simple shaking is not enough. Generally, use an electric stirrer for at least 3 minutes, or stir with a wooden stick for 5–10 minutes, or pour back and forth between two containers 2–3 times. If application stops for more than 2 hours, stir again. A well-mixed coating should have no sedimentation, no color difference, no resin floating on top, and should flow in a continuous stream when poured.
Cause Analysis 3
Improper surface preparation of the substrate, mainly applicable to clear coating on wood.
Solution:
Before applying waterborne wood coating, remove oil stains, dust, etc. from the wood surface. This ensures good adhesion and a smooth, flat paint film.
Cause Analysis 4
Excessive dilution of the waterborne wood coating, resulting in low application viscosity.
Solution:
Add 0–10% water as needed for application, but do not add too much water.
Cause Analysis 5
Applying the coating too thin; only one coat of topcoat when using different colors of primer and topcoat, with missed areas; or uneven film thickness due to uneven substrate surfaces.
Solution:
Follow the correct sequence for waterborne wood coating application and ensure uniform film thickness. Choose the proper application process according to the wood product characteristics to avoid missing areas or uneven coverage.
Cause Analysis 6
Excessive contrast between primer and topcoat colors, e.g., applying a light-colored topcoat over a dark-colored primer.
Solution:
The color difference between primer and topcoat should not be too great.
Cause Analysis 7
Over-sanding, penetrating through the paint film.
Solution:
Apply wood filler first, then sand gently, slowly, and with even pressure. Sand only until the surface is smooth, and avoid sanding through the film.
