Product Description

Compared with traditional solvent-based varnishes, this water-based wood coating offers a lower-odor application, easier water cleanup, and a clearer finish that resists yellowing. The system works in layers: the sealing primer blocks oils and tannins, the foundation primer builds fullness and sandability, and the topcoat provides durable surface protection, water repellency, mold resistance, and UV stability.

It is a practical choice for wood surfaces in daily family environments, including pigeon lofts, indoor furniture, cabinet panels, and decorative joinery.

Key Features
Pet-Conscious & Family-Friendly Formulation

Ultra-low VOC, zero added formaldehyde, and formulated without benzene, free TDI, alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), heavy metals (lead, copper, aluminum), phthalates, or PAHs. SGS-tested and compliant with EU heavy metal migration limits.

Advanced Anti-Yellowing Technology

UV-resistant polymers help prevent discoloration, keeping white and light-colored wood finishes bright and clear over time.

Multi-Layer Wood Protection System
  • Sealing Primer: Locks in natural wood oils, tannins, and resins to prevent bleed-through and yellowing while improving topcoat adhesion.
  • Foundation Primer: Builds surface fullness, reduces topcoat consumption, and sands smoothly for a flawless base.
  • Topcoat: Delivers scratch resistance, water repellency, mold prevention, and protection against daily liquid spills.
Low Odor & Non-Flammable

Water-based formula allows comfortable indoor application with minimal odor, safe water cleanup, and no flammable solvents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the paint safe for pigeons?

HILHELM's water-based wood coating is formulated to be low-VOC and low-odor, making it a practical option for wooden pigeon lofts when used as directed. Pigeons should be removed during surface prep, painting, and the initial drying period. After application, ventilate the loft thoroughly and wait until the coating is fully cured and odor-free before returning birds.

What wood species is this system compatible with?

It works well on softwoods such as pine and fir, hardwoods such as oak, walnut, maple, and birch, and engineered wood products including MDF and plywood.

How do I paint a pigeon loft?
  1. 1. Remove birds and equipment — Take out feeders, drinkers, perches, and nesting materials.
  2. 2. Clean and repair — Remove droppings, dust, and loose old coatings. Repair cracks or damaged wood.
  3. 3. Sand and dust off — Lightly sand for better adhesion, then wipe clean.
  4. 4. Apply Sealing Primer — 1 coat to lock in tannins, oils, and resins.
  5. 5. Apply Foundation Primer — 1–2 coats to build fullness and improve sanding smoothness.
  6. 6. Apply Topcoat — 1–2 coats for water resistance, UV stability, and easy cleaning.
  7. 7. Cure and ventilate — Keep the loft well ventilated. Do not return pigeons until the coating is fully cured and odor-free.
How should I maintain the painted surface?

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive pads, and prolonged standing water.
